We hosted a small group for our Cancer Care Waananga last weekend. We learnt the first part of our takutaku that will be built upon in our subsequent waananga. Learning the words together in a welcoming environment created space for down to earth kōrero. The flow of this kaupapa made it easy to understand and easy to participate in an informative discussion of the reo and around mauri. We learnt the story of Hine-puu-te-hue and how she breathed life and calm back into the chaos of the world and how we can use her children to do the same.

We spent our afternoon creating our first taonga puoro. We made poi awhiowhio. Joe had set up the workshop for this task with a range of hue to chose from. Everyone under Joe's guidance dove in transforming the hue into the taonga that we were all able to take back into our own worlds.

The day was filled with warmth and aroha, with laughter and good kai. It was a day filled with connection and a deep feeling of being uplifted and supported.
