TRADITIONAL MAORI HEALING
MIRIMIRI | ROMIROMI | TAONGO PŪORO
At Manahua on the West Coast, we offer traditional Māori healing through Mirimiri, Romiromi, and Taonga Pūoro. These modalities work together to calm the tinana (body), hinengaro (mind), mauri (lifeforce), and wairua (spirit), shifting trapped energies that may cause pain and discomfort. Mirimiri is an energetic form of healing that focuses on creating shifts on a vibrational level. This non-physical approach incorporates elements such as kōrero (counselling), waiata (song), karakia (prayer), taonga pūoro (traditional instruments), and breathwork, aligning the spiritual and emotional aspects before moving to physical touch. Romiromi complements Mirimiri by targeting the physical body, using hands, kohatu (stones), and raakau (sticks) to stimulate acupressure points, relieving tension, pain, and trauma held within. Taonga Pūoro, with their calming and restorative properties, enhance the healing process through their soothing, natural sounds. Together, these sacred practices promote holistic healing and restore balance to the body, mind, and spirit.

WHAT IS
MIRIMIRI
Mirimiri being the tuakana - an energetic form of healing, which can be delivered in numerous forms; Korero/counselling, Waiata, Takutaku, Karakia, Taonga Puoro, breathwork, connection to wairua and Tupuna/ancestors, energetic and vibrational stimulation and shifts.
Mirimiri is the non-physical aspect and is the energetic alchemy that happens before the physical touch of Romiromi.

WHAT IS
ROMIROMI
Romiromi is the physical aspect that is used to re-align, re-adjust, the physical body. Using our hands/arms/elbow, kohatu/stone or raakau/sticks to stimulate haemata and haematua which are accupressure and acupuncture points to shift and relieve aches, pains and traumas trapped within the body.
WHAT IS
TAONGA PŪORO
Manahua incorporates taonga pūoro (traditional Māori musical instruments) to share healing and cultural revitalization through sound vibration.
Taonga Pūoro are crafted from natural materials such as wood, stone, and bone, they carry the resonance of the earth and ancestral voices. The sounds of taonga pūoro evoke a sense of calm and connection, allowing clients to experience deep relaxation and emotional release.
Manahua uses these instruments to create vibrations that promote healing through the vibration of the cells on a molecular level.
Through taonga pūoro, Manahua offers a unique pathway to reconnect with whakapapa (lineage), Whenua (land), and wairua (spirit), facilitating healing and fostering a renewed sense of peace within individuals and communities.
