Taonga Pūoro at the Epic Centre 13th October- Kawatiri

Kia ora e te whānau!

We are thrilled to invite you to a special FREE event on Sunday, 13th October, at the Epic Centre in Westport.

This gathering offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the beautiful world of Taonga Pūoro—traditional Māori musical instruments—guided by the expert hands of Joe and whānau.

]Whether you are familiar with these precious taonga or looking to experience them for the first time, this is a space to connect, learn, and celebrate the rich heritage of Māori music.

What’s in Store?

The day will begin with a karakia, setting a sacred tone as we come together in whakawhanaungatanga (relationship building). You are encouraged to bring along your own instruments to play and share with the group. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your musical talents and learn new skills from others in a supportive, creative environment.

We will also delve into the world of Pūrākau, where we explore storytelling through the sounds and vibrations of Taonga Pūoro. These narratives are not just stories but living treasures, passed down through generations, encapsulating the essence of Māori culture and history.

Kai

As is customary with our gatherings, please bring a plate for shared kai. Sharing food is a beautiful way to foster connection and strengthen our bonds as a community. There’s something special about sitting down and enjoying a meal together after creating and playing music.

Community Collaboration

This event is about more than just music—it's about building a community. We want to hear from you! Share your ideas on how we can create more spaces like this, where we come together to celebrate our culture, music, and each other. Bring your thoughts and suggestions, and let’s weave together the future of our gatherings.
